Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum were married quietly on Saturday 9th January in a civil ceremony at Lime Wood Hotel, near Lyndhurst, Hampshire. Situated in the heart of the New Forest, the hotel was a romantic snowy backdrop for the Dahl-Cullum wedding on Saturday at 5.30pm

Sophie wore an ivory lace dress as she said ‘I do’ to tiny Jamie Cullum, and the press were not invited to the ceremony.

‘It was a very beautiful occasion for close family and friends. Sophie looked absolutely fantastic,’ says the bride’s godmother Babs Powell, the former Pan’s People dancer, who attended with her actor husband Robert.

Sophie, granddaughter of children’s writer Roald Dahl, has a stormy relationship with her mother Tessa, 52, who now lives in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Happily, there was no sign of any tension as Sophie was given away by her actor father Julian Holloway, with her half-brothers Luke and Ned, half-sister Clover, and mother Tessa, looking on.

Celebrity guests at the wedding included Clint Eastwood, Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Nicole Kidman plus up to 40 other guests at the intimate private ceremony. The couple have refused to sell the rights to the wedding photos to any of the celebrity gossip magazines.

Ahead of his nuptials, Jamie – who along with Sophie has frequently laughed off comments about their difference in height – recently recalled the first time he met his new wife.

“We hit it off immediately. I think we knew emotionally that we would become good friends,” he said.

“But someone like me never entertains the idea of going after someone like her, so I didn’t go for it. I couldn’t assume she would be interested in me…But it worked! Lucky old me – it turned out to be much more.”

The press and bloggers worldwide have been desperate to get hold of pictures of Dahl and Cullum’s nuptials, so far with no success. It is curious how our celebrity obsession means we almost cannot beleive something has happened without the photos to prove it! I think the pair made a wise decision that shows a certain refinement. in the past year all the B list celebrity couples, including some minor royals, have queued up to share a fantasy of their ‘perfect day’ in Hello!, OK! and the rest. Of course the reality is often kept quiet, like the fist fight that followed the Eastenders wedding at Claridge’s last Autumn.  Victoria and David Beckham were staying at the hotel at the time, and quickly left the building before they could be dragged in to the proccedings.  The Beckhams may not have been on the list for Sophie and Jamie’s wedding, but every guest who was present can be sure they were invited for their personality rather than the requirements of an article in a gossip magazine.

I am a big fan of any TV that leans towards the topics of sci-fi, the supernatural or time travel. I have watched the BBC series, ‘Being Human’ from the beginning, of course. This series airs on BBC Three so it could easily have slipped through the net. I’m so glad I found the programme from the beginning. It feeds, if you will pardon the pun, on my taste for the surreal mixed with a good dose of comedy. For me and many other women, the star of the first three series was Mitchell, the vampire, played by hunky Irish actor Aidan Turner. The producers were lucky, in my view, to keep Turner in the cast for so long. Sure enough, he was cast for a part in the new ‘Hobbit’ film and that involved a prolonged trip to New Zealand where the Hobbit franchise is filmed on location. So Mitchell had to go – sad but inevitable, and were were left bereft for the good-looking Celt.

The other members of the first series lineup, George (Russell Tovey) and Annie (Leonora Crichlow) have not been headhunted (the puns keep coming) and they remained in the cast for Series Four of Being Human. Or did they? The story as I heard it is that Russell Tovey decided he couldn’t continue delivering performances of the same level without Aidan Turner acting opposite him. Or did Russell just have a fit of jealousy and begin to think that ‘Being Human’ was beneath him? Essex Boy Tovey is also a star of an ITV sitcom, ‘Him and Her’. I checked it out once and it seemed to centre on obvious jokes regarding bodily functions. I have given ‘Him and Her’ a miss since then.

Russell Tovey began shooting of the fourth series, but then he decided he could not continue without his old oppo, Aidan Turner, and so he asked for his character to be written out. Maybe he wanted to negotiate a pay rise, or maybe he thought the series would never continue without him. Well, that was a big mistake! In my view the fourth series of Being Human is the best yet and the new characters, especially Hal, are bringing new interest to the storyline of this classy comedy/drama.

I cannot resist posting this clip froo Being Human, the BBC series about a (sexy) vampire, a werewolf and a ghost. Being Human is about to start its third series, and I cannot wait to see the new storylines. The main characters have moved away from Bristol after falling out with some key people. Mitchell murdered the Chief Constable and the vampires’ headquarters were firebombed by a religious zealot who also despatched Annie to a kind of limbo hell.

The newest TV cook, Sophie Dahl, has now broadcast two editions of her new series, the Delicious Miss Dahl, and the reviews from the celebrity gossip columns are not exactly congratulatory. Can a former model turn her career in the direction of TV chef based on her grandfather’s chocolate association? Or maybe she feels that her sensual approach to the issue will enable her to outdo Nigella Lawson? Our impression of the programme is of a very slim young woman with a mile-wide grinning mouth, attempting to find sensuality in every ingredient that she touches.  OK, so she wrote a cookery book before the series went out, but that is not a comprehensive television chef pedigree.

Is the cooking of a high standard?  Actually, no. The tasks that Ms Dahl attempts are fairly simple but often not accomplished. Last night she attempted a pea puree using a professional blender but the peas remained defiantly unblended.  The attention went on to the tearing of the herbs and testaments to their aroma and colour.  The scallops were marinaded in an oily mixture for a whole five minutes, but they did stay in the marinade for cooking so maybe that added to the effect.  The scallops were then barbecued in shells, which was a pretty effective and foolproof approach.  They looked good, but I found the accompanying highly suggestive commentary rather off putting.

Sophie Dahl has now become a decidedly skinny woman and she needs to come to terms with the fact that she is no longer her former voluptuous self.  As a result, some of the sexy stuff misses the target.  Little anecdotes about her compulsive neatness – whcih extends to making the bed while husband Jamie Cullum is still in it – do not add to the story.  When your husband is only 5 feet 2 ins tall and weighs seven stone, that is a mistake any woman could make!

Sex and the City fans – good news. If you are counting the days until the SATC film sequel is released – in May 2010 – then you will also like to know that Smith will appear in the plot. Actor Jason Lewis, who plays the blond hunk, has been spotted on the film set. You will remember that Samatha left Lewis’s chracater, Smith Jerrod, because she felt as if she was losing her identity once he became a Hollywood star.

Samantha gained 15lbs in weight as she ate to stop herself cheating on the gorgeous Smith. She returned to new York and he stayed on the west coast. Many fans were upset at the loss of Smith Jarrod. He is a beautiful chunk of man, but his character was sympathetic – the best man Samantha ever met, and fantastically good to her. Rumours are that Samantha will marry in the film – maybe Richard Wright will finally grow up and stop playing around! Whoever she marries, it would be logical to invite Smith to the wedding, as they parted on good terms. or maybe all our dreams will come true and Samantha marries Smith jerrod in the Sex and the City sequel.

Since appearing in SATC Lewis has made two high profile ad shoots – one for the sensual aspects of Galaxy chocolate, and the other for Charisma bed linen.  You see the connection?  I considered showing a respectable shot of Jason Lewis here, but instead I thought we could recall the fictional advertising campaign that Samantha used to launch Smith’s career in the SATC TV series.

Rumours – and that is all they are – about Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum’s wedding venue have started this week. The article I read claimed that Hunton Park, a wedding venue near Watford, is the couple’s favourite. The story reads like a PR piece for the owners, De Vere: maybe Sophie Dahl is checking the location out, and they decided to make the most of the publicity. The Dahl – Cullum wedding is expected to take place in July 2010, after the Jazz Musician finishes a tour to publicise his next album. Sophie is expected to go for a Big White Wedding Dress, in the best Sex and The City style, and she does not give a hooit about the couple’s extreme height difference.

Only a week after Prince William’s Cornwall holiday with another woman, he sprang a surprise holiday on Kate Middleton, taking her to Mustique for a ten day romantic Caribbean break.

The prince has been in the news this month, with speculation over his future with Kate. William took a houseparty holiday in Cornwall in July but girlfriend Kate Middleton was not included in the party.

Instead, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs was a constant companion of the crown prince for swimming, surfing and games on the beach. Showing discretion developed in many years of royal friendship, Lady Natasha refused to talk about their holiday together. She is 26 years old, daughter of the Marquess of Reading, and Natasha first met Prince William William when she attended Westonbirt School, near the Prince’s childhood home of Highgrove. The pair remained friends as they grew up and Natasha was seated on the top table at William’s 21st birthday party.

Speculation over another Kate and William breakup was guaranteed after his holiday with another woman, and some wondered if last week’s Mustique holiday was to be the time for William to propose marriage to Kate. But the royal couple, who booked their getaway under assumed names to beat the paparazzi,  returned to London last night with no announcement regarding their future.

Before their most recent holiday, Kate Middleton was said to be running out of patience as the pair were guests at the wedding of Guards officer Nick Van Cutsem on 14 August.  The groom fuelled the pressure on the prince by joking “you’re next” during speeches at the wedding breakfast.  But the prince’s wedding plans form part of the bigger strategy for the future of ‘the firm’ as the royals call their public image.  William is to be a steadying influence on younger brother Harry, and we can expect to see more photos of the royal princes together over the next two years.  The presence of William and Harry on international visits and photocalls is aimed to revive the Windsors’ image and stay in touch with the younger generation.  This will be followed by a short engagement and a royal wedding that is already being planned in secret.  This method is intended to avoid the mass hysteria that surrounded the prince’s mother, Lady Diana, and to give William and Kate more privacy to make a success of their marriage as prince and princess.

For a month the chemistry between Jennifer Aniston and co-star Gerard Butler has been obvious to everyone.  In the film, The Bounty, Butler kidnaps and handcuffs his ex-wife (Jennifer Aniston).  But the stars’ body language shows they do not have to work very hard to act the part of a couple with a strong mutual attraction.  The PR people for this film must be in rhapsodies and pictures from the film set keep the rumours flying.

Now, Aniston and Butler have been spotted holding hands when they enjoyed cocktails with cast members in a New York hotel last Saturday.

This week there another intimate moment was caught on camera as Gerard held Jennifer while her make-up was reapplied between takes.

The couple have been seen stealing kisses in filming breaks, and they spending their free time in Jennifer’s trailer.

Gerard, 39, has praised Jennifer Aniston, saying: ‘She is one classy lady. Every day I go to work with her, I’m always surprised about how cool, easy and down to earth and real she is’. Ms Aniston’s past relationships have ended in heartbreak and her romantic history has never matched her career success.
