Seven Celebrity Couples’ Height mismatches
The way the world works is that men are taller than women – mostly. The law of attraction means that, all things being equal, women look for men taller than themselves. But wealth and power are an important part of the mix, and the result is – short men with taller, often younger, women.
Here is our list of the seven best Celebrity height mismatches
1. Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum
She may be the Dahling of London society but Roald Dahl’s newlywed big boned granddaughter looks like his ‘Big Fat Giant’ character next to her tiny husband, Jazz pianist and singer Jamie Cullum. The couple were irritated by jibes over their height difference and the press were NOT invited to their winter wedding in the New Forest – see our report.
2. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Tom Cruise looks like an all action hero in his films, but he is a short one. Tom has been married twice to women who are taller than him, as you can see in this shot. Katie’s new high hairstyle just accentuates the height difference between them
3. Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott
Let’s get this straight – Sir Mick Jagger is not short, he is a gorgeous rock legend – 5ft 10ins and as fit as a 66-year-old fiddle. But now that he is dating Madonna’s stylist, 6ft 5in L’Wren Scott, Mick Jagger looks distinctly overshadowed. L’Wren is also 24 years younger than Mick Jagger, backing up the theory about money and power helping men to attract younger women.
4. Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy
The French President’s second wife is the stunningly attractive Carla Bruni who stands 5ft 10ins tall. Sarkozy, at 5ft 5ins, is one of a long line of short French leaders. Sarkozy was upset after being ridiculed during their first state visit to Britain for being so short. The French never did understand our sense of humour – they were pulling his leg (sorry) mainly for being an old bloke with a glamorous younger wife who upstaged him. The Sun newspaper even wrote an April Fool story that Sarkozy was considering “stretch surgery” in a bid to make him five inches taller. His lack of inches is just another stick to beat him with. Did he not realise that models are usually extra tall? Should have stayed with the first Mme Sarkozy if you wanted to keep the spotlight solely on yourself, M President.
5. Brigitte Nielsen and Mattia Dessi
Another supermodel with a shorter guy, but they make a good looking couple nevertheless.
6. Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin
I admit – Al Pacino is a big hero of mine, I know he is only 5ft 6ins but he has managed to avoid being photographed in unflattering contrast to women. Maybe because he does not need to bother with the celebrity circuit and does not crave attention on the red carpet. His acting abilities make the height unimportant. In Sea of Love there was smouldering chemistry between Pacino and Ellen Barkin (5ft 7ins), although she was clearly taller than Pacino.
