Fern Britton’s This Morning Finale

Leaving parties go well if there is enough alcohol around to raise spirits and fuel conversation.  Too much drink can lead to embarrassing scenes and damage a celebrity’s reputation.  presented her last show for This Morning on her 52nd birthday and was unprepared for the surprises the producers lined up for her. This was the last show before the summer break and the whole crew joined in the celebrations

Wearing a silver sequinned jacket over a turquoise bandage dress, ’s costly new slim shape was well displayed.  The jacket made the outfit look rather matronly, I think: it would have been better with a different jacket.    Later when Fern reached Heathrow for her romantic getaway with husband Phil Vickery she had swapped her silver stilettos for flat turquoise sandals.  Already in holiday mood, the Daytime TV star looked relaxed and happy en route to the airport, holding a glass of champagne as she left the TV centre.

’s resignation from the long running Daytime TV show it was rumoured to be down to a huge pay gap between her package and 47-year-old Phillip Schofield’s fee  for presenting the show.

There was plenty of gossip over the choice of Fern’s successor, with the ever-popular being tipped early on – could she fit any more into her crowded schedule?  In the end  Phillip Schofield’s new companion on the ‘This Morning’ sofa is his own choice: busty 28-year-old , who is already his co-presenter on ‘Dancing on Ice.  gave birth to her first child in May and as a new mother she will have a lot in common with stay-at-home Mums, an important group of the show’s audience.

, former Duchess of Windsor, had been lobbying for the job and she was among dozens of famous faces sending good luck wishes during ’s final appearance on This Morning.  The would have been sure to disapprove if Fergie had got the job, even if they would never admit to watching Daytime TV
