Hell’s Kitchen loses leading contender

Bruce Grobelaar resigning from Hells Kitchen
There was no need for Marco Pierre White to evict one of the Hell’s Kitchen contestants on Wednesday night after a shock resignation by the bookies’ favourite, Bruce Grobelaar. The reasons for his sudden departure seem to be a combination of homesickness and grief. This week was the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, which killed 96 Liverpool supporters at a Liverpool FA Cup match where Grobelaar was playing. Unable to attend the memorial service, Bruce organised a two minute silence on the Hell’s Kitchen set. The contestants have been confined to the Kitchen and their cast accommodation for 11 days now. When his wife visited for dinner, it seems as if Bruce decided his family life was too precious to quit, even for this limited time. “My wife was sitting outside [the kitchen] eating. That was the defining moment. I knew my prize was outside.”

Marco Pierre White and the whole team will miss Grobelaar: Marco had relied on him to keep standards up, saying “You’ve made my job easy for the last eight days. You walk out of Hell’s Kitchen a winner, Bruce. It hurts me, it saddens me to see you go.”

There has been gossip and speculation that aome Far East betting syndicates had backed Bruce to be the third contestant to leave Hell’s Kitchen. As he left the Premiership following allegations of being involved in a betting scandal, you can’t be surprised that there might be a more cynical reason for leaving. Bruce Grobelaar doesn’t look like the kind of guy who would pine away from being separated from the family for just TWO WEEKS!

The positive side of Grobelaar’s exit is that it saved any other team members from being sacked on the same day – he was acknowledged by Marco as one of the strongest performers – but that didn’t stop them shedding some tears at seeing him leave.  Niomi MacLean-Daley, Danielle Bux and Linda Evans were dabbing the tears away. Come to think of it, they have never been shy with the waterworks through the whole series.  Emotions have been running high as Marco Pierre White pushed them to bond as a team and they all now seem to worship him.
