Obama charm offensive
Popular opinion in Britain is that President Obama is a success. He possesses several traits that have endeared him to the nation. First, his overt love of the country. Barack Obama had professed his admiration and respect for the Queen and he admitted to being nervous in advance of meeting the monarch who he’d only seen on postage stamps before!
Second, Obama has a genuinely pleasant affability with everyone he meets. Third, he has a down to earth approach to life – not in a naive way, but in a manner where he can still act spontaneously. When Obama was close to being election I held my breath because I dreaded some catastrophe knocking him out of the election. After he was elected, the cynics were still alleging he was all style and no substance. Well, that might be so but he is making a good job of uniting the world leaders to get things moving. When I write these opinions, please be assured that I have checked them against the reliable barometer of public opinion round here. I make a point of listening to conversations in ourt local Post office or Doctor’s waiting room. If it is being said there, you can bet it’s a general opinion. Today I overheard the following “he is just so pleasant – he smiles all the time and it seems genuine”. Have a look at this photo where Obama greeted a London Bobby with a handshake outside 10 Downing Street, and see the delight on the officer’s face.
Welcome back!
