Sarah Kennedy showing that Suntan
I have seen Sarah Kennedy off duty quite a few times over the years. She used to frequent a cider bar near my Pimlico office at lunchtimes back in the 1980s when her career was going through a quiet period. Her early burst of celebrity was short lived. She was presenter on ITV’s “Game for a Laugh” show until 1984, and after leaving the show her TV work was less high profile. That was when she was a regular visitor to the ‘local’ and did not have the look of a celebrity on the way up. Her career got a boost in 1992 when she started presenting the Radio Two early morning show. This was where, in 1997, she first coined the term ‘White Van Man’ for which she is now famous.
Yesterday she was photographed outside BBC Broadcasting House after returning froma recent Caribbean holiday. The colour of her tan looks unnatural, but Ms Kennedy obviously remains a lifelong sun worshipper – look at the damage it has done to her skin.
Sarah Kennedy in London September 2008
There is a debate over her true age – Sarah Kennedy is recorded on Wikipedia as being 58 years old, but the
Daily Mail reported Sarah Kennedy’s age as 68 when the newspaper reported on her leathery skin. The condition of her skin is not typical of a woman in her fifties so perhaps the Mail must be right. Kennedy’s long term partner is Adrian McGlynn, who lives in Bedfordshire while she is working in London. The age difference is there for all to see in this photo, taken in London last Autumn (courtesy Pappix). The Mail put her age at 58 when they featured the picture, at the same time they described Adrian McGlynn as being 16 years her junior.

Sarah looks more like Adrian’s granny. I am sick and tired of this woman’s racist remarks. Remove her from the media. This is not the 1950s when comments such as the ones she makes were acceptable. Let her stay at home and look after her man and leave presenting to someone who is balanced and has not got a bigoted view on life.

Kaz, I agree completely. Sarah Kennedy is one of the group of BBC ‘personalities’ who seem to get away with behaviour that would be a sacking offence for anyone else. Compare some of her foot-in-mouth remarks on the air with Carol Thatcher’s off-air outburst, for which Thatcher was summarily dismissed.

Heaven protect us from the pc mafia, Kaz, are you jealous that a woman of Sarah’s age has a younger lover?
I enjoy Sarah’s morning show, as do millions of other Radio 2 listeners.
Thatcher deserved to be sacked, for being Margaret’s daughter, if nothing else.

Sarah was like a breath of fresh air, no airs & graces, you got what you saw. Can’t listen to Dawn Patrol now – bring back Sarah and her chatty
chit-chat (at a more reasonable time). We miss you Sarah and support you all the way. X

Having stopped work in 1996 and therefore let my daily timetable slip, I haven’t heard Sarah for years but my memories of her broadcasts are all positive. She was warm, kind, fun and informative and got my day off to an excellent start. I know her regular listeners will miss her terribly, just as late-risers like myself miss the wonderful Terry. I still miss the late Ray Moore who was also a great broadcaster.
Whatever you are going to be doing now Sarah may I wish you great happiness and a totally contented life. You are a much loved and admired broadcaster.

I really really miss Sarah I no longer listen to radio 2 ,they do not listen to what the public want, they got rid of Jimmy Young, he didnt want to go, then Terry, now Sarah, there is no point in listening any more, does any one know of a way of contacting Sarah, and is she doing any thing now.

What are these racist remarks that Sarah is supposed to have made? Come on Kaz quote some.I listened to Sarah for many of the years she was presenting the dawn patrol and never heard her once make anything that could be called a racist remark The B.B.C are rampent ageist’s. I have stopped listening to early morning radio two. There is no one who has been able to take Sarah’s place and who has her warmth and natural style of delivery. What ever you do Sarah don’t let all the speculation get you down. There are many ofus who miss and love you.
