SATC Sequel Update

Sex and The City - the wedding dress
There is a date set, but no film – yet.Ā  The latest word is that Sex and the City – the Movie – will be back on the silver screen on 28 May 2010. Money is at the root of the problem, if you believe the gossip. Chris Noth is said to be the greedy one this time, after Kim Cattrall stuck out for more in the first film. The actor himself says he is definitely returning as Big for SATC 2, but he obviously knows his role is crucial to the film. In public, Chris says all is well and he is looking forward to the new film.

In terms of the plot, it looks as if Carrie will have a baby and there was also an idea for a story line where Big cheats on her but that seems to have less support. That would just be too much to take, after he jilted her in the first movie! But the infidelity storyline involved Big taking a job in London after losing his business empire in the credit crunch: that bit would be fab for those of us who live this side of the pond. Imagine SATC on location in the City, and an advance peek at Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis strutting their stuff in New Bond Street! I’ll be there for my own exclusive pix, hope the weather will be good.

Cynthia Nixon has proposed a ‘new’ plot for the sequel: “I would love to see Miranda, Carrie and Charlotte and Samantha all go off on some wild mad cap adventure somewhere.” I think Cynthia should cast her mind back to the first movie – you all went to Mexico for the abandoned honeymoon, can you remember? To my mind that was the weakest part of the film, and it went on for far too long. Please do not subject us to such a lame story line for SATC 2.

During Season 1 to 6 and then the film it was Carrie and Big’s love that kept us all watching. People need to believe that love will conquer all and this was truly inspirational and beautiful. To have Big and Carrie divorce or cheat in the sequel would make a mockery of the past viewings. To love someone for 10 years through thick and thin is what people want to see and we do not expect to see Big and Carrie split or divorce.

If anything the film should be more about Kim Cattrall finding true love as well.

I agree – we have all watched Carrie and Big building up to commitment, and the girls are all looking for love. A happy ending for Samantha would be great – maybe she might see what an amazing man she had in Smith, and they could overcome the age gap?
