Carrie Bradshaws wedding flowers
The
Sex and the City film showed us all how easy it is to lose the plot when arranging a huge celebrity wedding, and Carrie and Big learned this the hard way. For my own recent nuptials I could not spend a lot of money, although the wedding arrangements still became quite stressful towards the end. One problem came with the flowers – a family member was going to arrange cream coloured roses for my bridal bouquet, but when I went to buy the roses they were dying. At home we already had an arrangement of white roses, and they looked better than the ones in the shop. So I bought some Lisianthus to match the roses, and decided to use the flowers that were at home. On arriving home, I found that my florist would not arrive until the last moment. Panic! Once I calmed down, I decided to try to make a hand-tied bouquet myself. From the deep recesses of my brain I remembered the method: place one rose across the palm of your hand, follow with another at an angle of 15 degrees, and so on. Snap an elastic band around the stems, and cover the band with a ribbon. Trim the stems – not too short for the bride – and head for the church. Here is a photo of my bouquet: I swear I did not model it on Carrie’s wedding flowers, but the similarity is clear. I was proud of my credit crunch effort, which cost all of £6!

I think you did a fine job with the wedding bouquet. Table arrangements can be a lot harder. It’s best to stick with a simple design on those if you DIY.
